An event sponsored by the California Energy Commission and the Green Technology Leadership Group on Wednesday, August 28 at The Citizen Hotel, 926 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95814
Overall energy use from electronics like computers, set-top boxes, game consoles, and other devices is growing in California, nationally, and around the globe. In California, electronics represent the fastest growing segment of residential and commercial utility bills and their consumption is expected to increase 60 percent between 2010 and 2030 (Energy Information Administration, 2010). At the same time, major innovations are occurring in the consumer electronics industry that are already reducing energy use in individual devices and across multiple devices.
The California Energy Commission and the Green Technology Leadership Group are co-hosting the “Innovator Series” to highlight how innovation in the design, manufacture and sale of consumer electronics can help mitigate the rapid energy growth in this sector. Scaling up industry innovations will be necessary as California plans its long-term appliance efficiency standards efforts. GTLG and CEC discussed CEC’s appliance efficiency standard progress and “Big Ideas” from several companies at the cutting edge of new technologies that can change energy use trends in electronics through the billions of devices they produce each year.
