The GTLG co-hosted the “More Than Smart” conference on September 10, 2022 with Governor Brown’s Office. As a part of the Open Energy Initiative, it focused on access to energy use data, incentives for energy efficiency, and revamping the energy grid.

In Silicon Valley and around the world, a revolution is occurring where the proliferation of sensors, energy-efficient semiconductors, and a new ability to collect and process massive amounts of data are creating new tools to increase system efficiencies and new products improving our daily lives. These new technologies are catalyzing a marketplace of energy management tools for consumers and energy providers.

To capitalize on new energy data and technology opportunities, the Green Technology Leadership Group collaborated with the California Governor’s Office, ARM Holdings, and the Energy Foundation to host a conference on intelligent energy use on September 10, 2013.

The conference provided a platform for technology companies to highlight benefits of enabling new technologies into the energy system, positioning the conversation to be driven by the promise of technology rather than limited to a policy-dominated dialogue. The ultimate goal of the conference was to help shape California’s vision of becoming a model for tomorrow’s intelligent energy infrastructure.

The conference centered around presenting information and seeking insight on the following three questions:

Grid Infrastructure – Planning and Building a more Reliable, Resilient and Flexible Grid

How can California create a more intelligent energy system on both sides of the meter to help ensure the future reliability of existing supplies through 2020?

Customer Energy Data – Access and Uses

How quickly can California provide customers their own energy use data in a way that educates them in support of distributed generation, energy efficiency, load shifting and peak shaving considerations?

Electricity Rate Design – Rates and their Impact on Consumer Behavior

How quickly can California implement time-based pricing that supports distributed generation, energy efficiency, load shifting and peak shaving considerations while paying for infrastructure?
